Great Daylily Videos from Jacob Henry

                                           Jacob Henry from Alabama

For years I have searched You Tube for good videos of daylily gardens. I think back in 2011 I made my first video of my daylily garden using my Canon Rebel T1i camera and unfortunately it came out terrible and very unstable.  (You can actually get seasick from watching it. LOL!) Anyway, it's nice how far videos have come in such a short time.  Thankfully the quality of videos we are making on our smart phones has also improved dramatically. About 4 years ago I started taking notice of videos and photographs that were taken by my Facebook friend, Jacob Henry.  In a very short time he has put together some really awesome daylily videos, so I was hoping to share some here on the blog. Here are 5 of my favorites:

Blue Ridge Daylily Gardens walk through 2019 Part One (Jacob Henry)

Visiting Crintonic Gardens, July 2019, Daylilies of Curt Hanson (Jacob Henry)

Ladybug Daylilies, visit 2019. The daylilies of Dan Hansen. (Jacob Henry)

Thoroughbred Daylily Gardens, Walk Through, Part One. The daylilies of John Rice. (Jacob Henry)

Visiting Floyd Cove 2019.  The daylilies of Guy and Karen Pierce. (Jacob Henry)

Jacob Henry currently has 351 subscribers, but would love to add to that total.  I would HIGHLY recommend you subscribe to his You Tube channel because I know Jacob is out there right now visiting even more daylily gardens.  To view any of the above videos, just click on the arrow.  A lot of these videos are "part one's," so do check out the "part two's" as well.  Thanks Jacob for letting me share some of your best work.  I look forward to all the great videos I know he will be introducing in the future.  This will most likely be my last daylily blog post for the season.  Going to be busy in the daylily garden, but I already have some great interviews lined up for late Fall.  Please check back and enjoy all the posts anytime. Stay SAFE everyone!  Happy Gardening!

Undefinable seedlings, part 2

Rich Howard Undefinable seedling. Incredible striping complete with dots!

Bill Waldrop Undefinable seedling 8-708. Fantastic Bill!!!!

Since my segment on seedlings from the daylily Undefinable were posted last September, there has been a lot of new seedlings that have bloomed, and it just seemed to make sense to do a second segment with pictures of those.  Let's start off with my friend, Rich Howard's seedlings which are really breaking some new ground:

                                    Rich Howard Undefinable seedling

Rich Howard seedling (Explosion in the Paint Factory X Undefinable)

                                      Dave Mussar Undefinable seedling

Dave Mussar seedling (June Mist X Undefinable)

Such a wonderful collection of seedlings and introductions.  All photos are the property of each person who shared them and use without prior consent is prohibited.  Hope you enjoyed that follow up segment.  Well, April was a busy month with the start of my 33rd year of landscaping.  It was one of the coldest months on record for the state of Ohio.  May is here and I'm hoping the temps start to kick into gear and warm up.  I hope to do one more segment before I take a break for the daylily hybridizing season, so stay tuned. Thanks for stopping in.

Beautiful Daylily Garden photos

Theresa Roth's daylily garden in Morton, Illinois

Theresa Roth's daylily garden in Morton, Illinois. Just lovely.

It's been a very difficult time for all of us.  I'm really at a loss of words as to what to say.  I just hope that these photos brighten your day.  I pray that the powers that be find a cure or vaccine soon. Here's a couple more:

Darrel App's Woodside Nursery. Awesome amount of bloom!

Patterned Daylilies

                                                Paul K. Lewis seedling

                                             Paul K. Lewis seedling

After having a really lousy Spring, I didn't think I would see much in the way of new patterned daylily seedlings bloom.  Boy was I wrong.  Had a good hand full that I was really blown away with.  The patterns in the eye continue to evolve and you really never know what to expect next.  Such was the case with a lot of the seedlings I have seen on Facebook.  Things are really changing quickly.  Here are some more:

                                     Dennis Christman Seedling T-18-33

                                     Dennis Christman Seedling T-18-21

Impact Zone (Jamie Gossard) This one really impressed me this year.

                                       Paul Van Mechelen seedling

                                            Paul K. Lewis seedling

Paul K. Lewis future, "Batman Begins"

Well, that is a collection anyone would enjoy in their garden.  Spring is creeping up on us and I can't wait to get outside and get my hands in the dirt again.  Hoping my next segment has some of Curt Hanson's new intros and possibly a video of his garden.  Stay tuned.

Distinctive Daylilies

Mike Derrow seedling T18-63.  Most unique flower I have seen in a long time.

Mike Derrow seedling T18-63. (Ashwood Summer Sunshine X Moriah)

Ron Reimer diploid seedling. Amazing Ron!

                                           Ron Reimer diploid seedling.

Facebook gives me a chance to see daylilies I wouldn't typically see if I just used pictures from my garden.  To me these daylilies above really made me stop and gaze with amazement.  You just don't see daylilies like that every day.  I also wanted to include some daylilies that I do grow that really impressed me this past year.  Here are 3 from my garden that were really nice:

Richard J. Howard (Angela Ridder) The color was amazing each bloom.

Richard J. Howard (Angela Ridder) Close up on the speckling.

                                      Richard J. Howard (Angela Ridder)

Mom's Kind Heart (Chad Bush) Nice lovely tall scape and a color that draws you in.

                                       Mom's Kind Heart (Chad Bush)

Dreams Come True (Mark Carpenter) A very unique pattern.  Different pattern every day. Highly recommended.  Set pods.

                                    Dreams Come True (Mark Carpenter)

                                    Dreams Come True (Mark Carpenter)

Just a quick sampling of some really special daylilies.  Not certain what the rest of the month holds, but I can tell you I plan a segment on patterns in March and of course my annual segment on Curt Hanson's new intros, so stay tuned!
