Best videos from the summer of 2024

The 2024 season was a season of change.  I love shooting videos of the garden all throughout the season. It gives me something to re watch during the boring, long months of winter.  The video above was probably my favorite one from 2024.  You can see I added a drone to my arsenal and it really gives you a different perspective on the garden from above.  I had to learn how to use it in a short time and it wasn't that easy for this 61 year old guy.  I like to do my "best of" series of videos and those are featured below.  Enjoy!

What a great group.  Such a pleasure to be able to capture some of the prettiest daylilies from around the country.  I hope you enjoyed them as much as I enjoy making them.  I don't know what I have in store next.  I am busy working on a different blog about my family ancestry this winter.  That is a whole nother can of worms....let me tell you.  So, I will try to find something of interest for you my daylily friends in the beginning of 2025.  Happy holidays to you all.

Best of Broken Colors for 2024

I reached out to all my hybridizing friends for seedling photos this year and couldn't believe some of the break throughs I was seeing.  Not only that but the sheer number of seedlings that are so impressive.  Every one seemed like a future intro.  I included some new intros as well which I'm just seeing now as hybridizers are posting their 2025 intros.  This look is probably the most popular right now in daylilies. The ADS has updated it's definition of it as being variegated or broken colors.  So, I guess I have to stop calling them striped daylilies.  Anyway, I will show you below in groups some of the awesome seedlings hybridizers have shared with me.

Unbelievable how many broken color intros and seedlings there are from all over the world.  I'm sorry to all the hybridizers who I didn't include this year.  It wasn't personal, there were so many submissions and I only had so much time.  I did my best.  Hope you enjoyed it. All the above pictures are the property of each person that submitted them and use without prior consent is prohibited.  Hope all of you enjoy your Thanksgiving whether you already celebrated it or will this coming week.  I hope to post something around Christmas next.  Busy working as usual.  Got to pay those bills.  Happy holiday season to you all.

Best of broken colors (striped sepals) 2024

Clown Pants (Steve Todd)

Clown Pants seedling (Peter Donato)

Steve Todd told me that he made the cross for Clown Pants in 2010, it bloomed the first time in 2013 and in 2015 it really started showing itself including it's teeth. Since then this look has taken off and a lot of hybridizers have introduced daylilies with this look all having Clown Pants somewhere in their parentage.  It's a fun category of daylilies and I love to feature it on the blog.  Here are more photos:

Wow! What a great group of daylilies!  Special thanks goes to Steve Todd for taking the time to share his seedlings with me. Thanks also to all who shared their photographs with me.  All photographs are the property of each person and use without prior consent is prohibited.  Working on my other best of broken color segment and this year looks especially promising.  Should be up in a couple of weeks.  Stay tuned.  Thanks.
