Possible future, David Bowie |
Well, the summer of 2020 has been one of the most challenging years for daylily hybridizing that I've ever had. The deer population around here grows every year with no predators or hunting allowed, and they came after my daylilies any way they could. Fencing had to be put up but at first it wasn't high enough. They actually jumped over heights of 6 feet. I was able to protect the front area and one side area. It was enough to see my best seedlings and I got to see some really cool things. My patterned program continued to see improvements with a lot of the seedlings coming from my future intro, The Downward Spiral. Here are some of those seedlings:
Fulfill Your Destiny X The Downward Spiral
Totem and Taboo(DeCaire) X The Downward Spiral |
Ring Necked Pheasant(Lambertson) X The Downward Spiral |
Seeing a lot of seedlings out of my introduction, Secretariat this year. It is proving to be a great parent for blue eyes. Here are some:
Blue Breasted Bee Eater(Lambertson) X Secretariat
Secretariat X 42 (Townsend) |
All Things to All Men(Emmerich) X Secretariat
Here a few more seedlings I consider possible futures.
42 (Townsend) X Helicoprion (Hansen) Love this blue eye. |

That's just a small sampling of some of the exciting things I got to see this Summer. Looking forward to another blog season. I have a few interviews lined up and some new video segments I hope to include. Stay tuned!
