A summer isn't a summer without a visit to Moldovan, Woodhall gardens in Avon, Ohio. This past summer some of Steve Moldovan's last daylily seedlings came into peak bloom. Roy Woodhall wanted to make sure Steve's final crosses got lined out so he dug up the bed directly behind the house and lined out all of Steve's seedlings there. You could really see some neat stuff going on in that bed and right next to it was a nice bed of my friend, Wayne Listkowski's daylily seedlings. I'm sure Wayne will have some intros coming from that bed. Anyway, featured at the very top of the page is a picture of some of the bloom coming from that bed. Pictured right below it was a collection of some of Steve's best blooms out of that bed. You can see in some of the purples how the patterns are beginning to evolve more, mostly coming from Steve's namesake daylily. Roy was always very kind in showing me around the garden and making sure I knew the pedigree's of every flower I had in the car. I think Steve and Roy have one of the most detailed stud
books I have ever seen. There is something to be said for keeping good records! Well, I hope you enjoy the daylilies below as much as I did that day.
Pictured above is Steve's introduction Evening Eye Shadow. Very nice!
Above is a Steve Moldovan seedling out of Piece of Sky. Interesting stippling!
Pictured above is the introduction, Nanny Button Cap.
The photo above is a fine purple Moldovan seedling.
Finally, one last unique Moldovan seedling. I hope to share some pictures from Curt Hanson's garden in the coming weeks.
